We have just had a wonderful opportunity present itself. Our friend Dawn Pemberton will be in town this weekend performing at the Winnipeg Jazz Festival on Sunday night 9 p.m. at the Old Market Square outdoor stage. Dawn has availability on June 20th, this Monday evening to offer a Master Class for people interested in learning how to solo in the gospel style.  She is the real deal, a tremendously talented singer, performer, coach, and all around lovely human being.  You won’t just be filled with knowledge by the end of the evening, your heart will be filled with joy and good grooves.

The workshop will be held on Monday evening from 7:00pm – 9:30pm (location to be announced) and the fee per person will be $50 (with a maximum of 8 participants). Class Description for Gospel Soloing 101:

In a fun, upbeat and supportive environment we will explore fantastic tools and techniques to develop and enhance your gospel soloing chops and build your confidence!  We’ll dig deep and learn about the culture and history of African American gospel and how it shapes the music we know and love. We all also spend some time learning some of the best ways to prepare for solo auditions and performances. This workshop is open to all levels and abilities! Together, using inspiring songs from the gospel and soul traditions, we will seek, step up, stretch out and soar! Don’t miss this opportunity!

Dawn Pemberton Bio:

Vibrant, genuine and soulful, Dawn has deep musical roots that take her powerful voice from gospel and soul to jazz, funk and world music. She has become a staple of the Vancouver music scene and can often be found tearin’ it up as a vocalist, teacher, adjudicator, choir director and “go to girl” for live performances and studio sessions. She currently directs the Roots ‘N’ Wings Women’s Choir and teaches masterclasses and workshops all over Canada. Dawn’s debut solo album, Say Somethin’,  released on DoRight!
